beasts of burden … from when we used to live a bit closer to them.

A representation (from another day) of today. FABULOUS WEATHER.
Buildings from another time. Busy once. Useful once. idle now.
(I don’t mean to make this sound sad - these buildings energize me - just thinking about all that happened in them is a charge).
There’s nothing quite as motivating as riding alongside a coal train as it picks up speed and sound except maybe riding alongside a coal train as it picks up speed and the clouds above open up and lay down a steady cool spring shower.
That’s my best moment of the day, halfway thru.
I thought about taking a picture. There it was on the porch floor: Half of a pale piece of eggshell, only big enough to fit over the top of a finger and a thin line of fluid snaking out beyond it. Proof that something was happening in the neatly constructed nest in the tree by the front door. I haven’t moved it. I’m not sure why.
One more reason to hate nature shows. I can hear the narration now …
The aftermath of all that rain and dog-creeping-up-the-stairs-in-the-wake-of-thunder, lightning crashing down.
Where the work stopped.
These are a few of my favorite trees … (sing along over the roar of the rush hour traffic just beyond!)
